Abial Fisher account book, 1797-1840.

Accounts kept by Abial Fisher of Putney and Danville, Vermont documenting barter transactions from 1802 to 1840. Abial appears to have made earthen-ware pottery while living in Putney and accounts from 1802 to 1806 show these transactions. Accounts from Danville show transactions of farm labor for services such as blacksmithing, shoemaking, weaving, and cooperage. The final pages of the account book were kept by Abial's son, John Fisher (1789-1864). Among the loose papers at the end of the account book is a brief account of a meeting at the Putney Baptist Church dated August 24, 1797.

Abial Fisher was born in Norton, Massachusetts on September 22, 1755. He married Lydia Allyn (1758-1833) on October 4, 1781 in Rehobeth, Massachusetts. Around 1785 he moved to Putney, Vermont and by 1806 he had moved to Danville, Vermont. Abial was active in the Baptist church and helped organize the Putney Baptist Church in 1787. He and Lydia Allyn had 8 children. Abial Fisher died in Danville, Vermont on December 20, 1839. From the description of Abial Fisher account book, 1797-184...
